Tahwwur Rana in NIA custody
The Mumbai attack accused and terrorist Tahavvur Hussain Rana is now in custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The NIA has detained the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks on the order of the special court of New Delhi late on Thursday night amidst rapid changing developments associated with extradition. The NIA has fought a major legal battle in the US to bring terrorist Rana to India.
Los Angelis in America brought to New Delhi
The NIA had ensured extradition of terrorist Rana from the US after years of continuous efforts. Rana was brought to New Delhi late on Thursday night with NSG and NIA teams by special aircraft from Los Angeles, USA, after the terrorist leader failed in the final attempt to ban his extradition from the US.
Rana’s many appeals were rejected in American court
Rana has finally been extradited after Rana’s various cases and appeals were rejected, including an emergency application before the US Supreme Court. Along with coordinated efforts of India’s Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Home Affairs, the United States has been extradited by issuing a surrender warrant for the wanted terrorist with the concerned officials.

The NIA worked with its counterparts in the US FBI, USDOJ and other agencies during the entire extradition process, which is a major step in India’s efforts to bring individuals involved in terrorism under justice.
After arrest, NIA was presented in special court
Late on Thursday, the anti-terrorism agency NIA formally arrested Rana on reaching the IGI Airport in New Delhi after his successful extradition from the US. Rana was then produced before the special court of NIA at Patiala House.
Rana will be in NIA custody for 18 days
The court ordered Rana to be kept in NIA custody for 18 days. During this time the agency will make a detailed inquiries to find out the entire conspiracy behind the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, in which a total of 166 people were killed and more than 238 were injured.
