These states will have more heat

Director General of IMD (DG) Mrityunjay Mahapatra said that the number of heat wave in the Ganges areas of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal is expected to be one to four days more than normal. Gujarat, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, nearby Telangana and some areas of North Karnataka are also expected to be more than normal on the day of heat wave. Generally, the heat wave runs for one to three days in May in various parts of the country except southwest peninsular India.

Rain expected to remain more than normal in North India

Mahapatra said that except for some areas of northwest, central and northeast India, most parts of the country are likely to receive more than normal rainfall. Rainfall in North India is expected to be higher than normal, which will be 109 percent higher than a long -term average of 64.1 mm. He said that there is a possibility of thunderstorms in May, which will prevent the temperature from reaching the level of May 2024.

Heatwave effect in Rajasthan, Gujarat

The Director General of IMD said that in April, Rajasthan and Gujarat recorded more than normal heat wave (6 to 11 days). Whereas in eastern Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha, their number (4 to 6 days) was more than two to three days. Heat wave was recorded for one to three days in the adjacent parts of East-Central India, Maharashtra and Northern Peninsular India, which was slightly less than two to three days.
