Fatty liver is increasing concern
Non-alcohol fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is becoming a major concern in the state, especially with changes in lifestyle and food habits in urban areas. The theme of this year’s World Liver Day, ‘Food is the medicine’, emphasizes what kind of things we eat and what role they play in keeping different organs healthy. Last year, the central government recognized NAFLD as a major non-communicable disease.
Fatty liver is a silent epidemic
A statement issued by the Press Information Bureau said, “It can be considered a silent epidemic, whose community proliferation ranks from 9% to 32%, which depends on age, gender, area of residence and socio-economic situation. In other words, we are saying that one to three of the 10 people will have fatty liver or related disease.” The city’s hepatologist and gastroenterologist also pointed to an increase in NAFLD cases in the state, which is caused by sedentary lifestyle and poor eating habits.
