New Delhi. Waqf Board has been under the scanner for a long time. The reason for this is his claim on the properties. Every day there is news from somewhere in the country that the Waqf Board of some state has laid claim on the land and this has created a dispute. Now Modi government has told in Parliament how many land claims of Waqf boards are disputed. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, in a written reply to CPM MP John Brittas’ question, said that there is a dispute over the claims of Waqf boards on 994 properties across the country. The owners of all these properties say that the Waqf boards have taken possession of them illegally.
The Waqf Board had laid claim to a village in Tamil Nadu. There is a 1400 year old temple here.
Kiren Rijiju said that Tamil Nadu Waqf Board is most accused of illegal land occupation. The Waqf Board of Tamil Nadu is accused of illegally occupying 734 properties. After this, Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board is at number 2. Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board is accused of illegal occupation of 152 properties. At third place is Punjab Waqf Board with 63 properties, at fourth place is Uttarakhand Waqf Board with 11 disputed properties and at fifth place is Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board with 10 disputed properties. Waqf boards have a total of 872352 immovable and 16713 movable properties. At the same time, the Urban Affairs Ministry of the Modi government has told in the Rajya Sabha that since 2019, the Central Government has not given any property to the Waqf Board. The central government has also told Parliament that the states have not disclosed any data of land given to Waqf boards.
Let us tell you that after many incidents of disputed claims being made on properties by Waqf Boards, Modi government has brought the Waqf Board Amendment Bill in the Parliament. This bill is being discussed in the Joint Parliamentary Committee i.e. JPC. Recently there was news that Maharashtra Waqf Board had given 300 acres of land to farmers in Latur as its own. Earlier, in Bihar also, the Waqf Board had declared a village as its own. Whereas, the Waqf Board claimed a village in Tamil Nadu. Whereas, there is also a 1400 year old temple there. Similar land related disputes are taking place over Waqf boards in many other states of the country.
Maharashtra Waqf Board has also laid claim on 300 acres of land of 130 farmers of Latur.
