Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) spokesman Randhir Jaiswal on Wednesday welcomed the Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs Ahmed bin Mohammad Al-Sayyid on arrival in India. Al-Syed arrived in India with a high-level investment delegation.
On X (x), Randhir Jaiswal wrote, “Heartfelt welcome to India. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammad Al-Seyid, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs of Qatar, has reached India today, leading a high-level investment delegation.”
The visit took place months after the statement in which Al-Sayyid said in February this year that Qatar wants to pursue its economic partnership with India from the traditional oil and gas sector and focus on new business opportunities and investment. This tour was expected to further this vision and strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.
Al-Syed described the visit of Qatar’s rich Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on a visit to India as important. He insisted that the tour shows strong strategic partnership between the two countries in various regions. Al-Sayyid said, “We were focusing on increasing the business sectors other than oil and gas, where we can work together with India. We were welcoming Indian businessmen.”
Qatar and India have shared strong trade and business relations in the energy sector for many years. However, Qatar now wants to focus beyond oil and gas with the changing global trade scenario and increasing effects of artificial intelligence and technology.
He said, “Today, the world is changing rapidly in terms of trade and business and due to technology and use of AI. We are continuing investing in petrochemicals, oils and gas in Qatar. But we are focused on areas beyond oil and gas, where India can be important partners for us.”
Al-Syed encouraged Indian businessmen to discover investment opportunities in Qatar. He assured that the Qatri government is actively working on strengthening economic relations with India and making more partnerships in various fields. He said, “We were welcoming Indian businessmen. We were encouraging our business society, government and public sector to invest more in India and make more partnerships in different sectors.”
Expressing his curiosity over the tour, Al-Syed said that he is excited to deepen the economic relations between India and Qatar. He said, “I came to India and I was very happy and satisfied and I am waiting to take this partnership to the next level.”
Qatar has been an important partner in the Gulf region of India for a long time. Both countries have been constantly involved in trade and investment cooperation. This journey of Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is considered important towards further speeding up economic cooperation between the two countries and opening new business opportunities.
This India tour of Amir was a two -day state tour in February. He brought with him ministers, senior officials and business delegations. Earlier, he also came to India in March 2015.
