According to the announced ranking this morning, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi is the best ranked Indian institution in the QS World University Rankings for 2026, which has reached 123rd, while the country’s record 54 universities and institutions have managed to make it to this prestigious list.
The prestigious QS World University rankings published every year by London-based global higher education analysis firm Quacharylly Symonds evaluate universities based on a variety of performance indicators, including educational reputation, faculty-element ratio, research effects, international student diversity and graduate employment capacity.
With the inclusion of eight new institutions in the ranking this year, 54 institutions in India have now joined it, making it the fourth most representative country after the US (192 institutes), Britain (90 institutes) and mainland China (72 institutes).
In any other country or region, there are not so many universities in the ranking this year. Jordan and Azerbaijan are the second best universities and both have six universities in the 2026 rankings.
