Union Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari while addressing an event on Tuesday said that India’s road network will be better than America in the next two years. He said, I don’t think there is any problem in the road area. Changes that occur this year and next year will be so important that earlier I used to say that our highway network will be equal to America, but now I say that in the next two years our highway network will be better than America.
The Union Minister said that India will adopt electric vehicles (EVS) and beaten the US in the next five years. The minister also talked about the schemes of the ministry and said that there will be a huge decrease in travel time between cities like Delhi, Dehradun, Jaipur and Bengaluru.
“Transport manufacturers prioritize quality”
When asked about Tesla’s entry into India, Nitin Gadkari said, “This is an open market, whoever is capable, come, produce and compete in prices.” He also said that transport manufacturers in the country prioritize quality and not cost. They are fully sure that vehicle manufacturers will make good vehicles and introduce them at a competitive price.
Nitin Gadkari also reiterated that he is committed to reducing logistics costs and will go into single digits, which will strengthen India global competition. Currently the country’s logistics cost is around 14-16 percent. He also informed that he has set a target of construction of 60 km of road every day.
“Lithium-ion batteries fall in prices”
Nitin Gadkari said that with the implementation of the vehicle scraping policy, auto component prices may decrease by 30 percent, which will reduce the prices of vehicles and benefit consumers. He also said that the government is taking several steps to improve charging infrastructure on cities and highways, which will increase demand for electric vehicles.
Gadkari said, “We have brought a scraping policy, which will reduce the prices of auto components by 30 percent.” He said that the prices of lithium-ion batteries have also declined in India. Large companies like Adani Group and Tata are now going to produce lithium-ion batteries in India on a large scale. Explain that lithium-ion battery is an important part of electric vehicles.
Gadkari also revealed that large reserves of lithium have been found in Jammu and Kashmir, 6 percent of the world’s total lithium reserves and can produce millions of lithium-ion batteries. He also appreciated the Indian automobile industry, which is currently growing at a healthy pace and has now become the third largest industry in the world, leaving behind Japan.
