Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar said on Friday that the state government is planning to increase the water fee by one penny per liter. The Deputy Chief Minister claimed that the water fee in Bengaluru has not been amended since 2014. He said that in view of the deficit, the ‘Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB)’ has proposed an increase of 7 to 8 paise per liter.
Shivkumar said, “But I have told him that there are seven-eight money. The government is considering an increase of one paise per liter. We will discuss the matter with the city MLAs before taking any decision.”
Deputy CM Congress Legislative Council Member (MLC) was answering the question of Ramoji Gowda, who had urged the government to expedite the supply of water of the Cauvery river to the houses in view of the summer season. He said, “Last year, it was difficult for us. Around 7,000 borewells dried up, causing the government to resort to private water tankers. We have implemented the Kaveri fifth phase project, which is providing water to 110 villages.”
