It is too early to conclude on Air India aircraft accident, avoid spreading rumors: AAIB

The aircraft accident investigation Bureau of Investigation (AAIB) said on Thursday that it would be too early to reach a certain conclusion on the Air India aircraft accident, as the investigation is still going on.

Along with this, the bureau urged everyone to avoid making any rhetoric among the causes of a severe accident.

AAIB Director General GVG Yugandhar said in a statement, “It has come to our notice that some sections of international media are repeatedly trying to conclude through selected and uncomfortable reporting. Such action is irresponsible, especially when investigation is on.”

AAIB, while appealing to all the concerned parties to wait for the publication of the final inquiry report, said that this is not the time to create concern or resentment in the public about the safety of the Indian aviation industry, especially based on unfounded facts.

The statement came under the backdrop of reports stating that the Air India plane crashed on June 12, in which 260 people were killed due to the pilot’s mistake. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft going from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick crashed immediately after flying.

The statement said, “The purpose of the AAIB investigation and preliminary report is to provide information about what happened. The preliminary report should be seen in this perspective. At this time, it is too early to reach any definite conclusion. The AAIB investigation is not yet completed. The final investigation report will come up with the original causes and recommendations.”

AAIB urged both the public and the media to avoid spreading such things ahead of time, which threatens the integrity of the investigation process.

It said, “It is necessary to respect the sensitivity of the damage done to the family members of the deceased passengers, the crew of the aircraft and the other dead persons present on the ground.”

It also states that this accident is the most disastrous accident in recent aviation history. The statement said that the investigation is being done in a rigid and most professional manner as per the AAIB rules and international protocols.

In the backdrop of concerns raised about the preliminary investigation report, AAIB stressed that its record in the investigation of 92 accidents and 111 serious incidents since its establishment in 2012 has been impeccable.

“Still, in addition to the unfortunate investigation by Air India’s B787-8 aircraft VT-ANB, many other accidents and serious incidents are under investigation,” the statement said.

Therefore, AAIB appeals to all concerned parties to wait for the publication of the final investigation report after the investigation is completed. AAIB will also publish technical and public interest updates as required.
