At least three people have died due to cloudburst in Ramban area of Jammu and Kashmir. On Sunday, a sudden flood and landslide in the area caused a cloudburst, resulting in thousands of people displaced.
According to local officials, the area received heavy rains at 1:30 pm. Due to the continuation of rain, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert asking people to leave their homes and settle to another place.
According to The Hindu report, there has been a huge devastation due to cloudburst in Seeri Bagna village of Ramban. Officials said the rescue operations are going on and police personnel have saved at least 100 stranded villagers.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said, “We are closely monitoring the situation and I will review the restoration and rehabilitation measures later today.”
He expressed grief over the loss of life and property and advised the citizens to avoid traveling.
Five people have died in rain -related incidents in the last two days, including a woman who died of lightning in Arnaas area of Reasi district late on Saturday night.
More than 40 houses were damaged due to sudden floods in Dharam Kund village, out of which 10 were completely damaged.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh wrote on X, “The Ramban area has heavy hailstorms, many landslides and strong winds. It also includes areas around Ramban city. The national highway has been blocked and unfortunately three people have died and some families have lost property.”
According to the media, traffic was postponed after several landslides, soil sinking and stone fall around the strategic Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
An anonymous officer told The Hindu that passengers have been advised not to travel amid heavy rains, while people trapped on a 250 km long highway have been taken to safe places. He said that a part of the road has also been washed away near Panthiyal.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a warning of bad weather situation in Jammu and Kashmir, citing the influence of the active Western disturbance.
Heavy rains, thunderstorms, hailstorms and strong winds were estimated in the forecast, due to which the authorities started precautionary action.
