Lieutenant General MV Sachindra Kumar on Wednesday left the command of the Northern Command at Udhampur on completion of retirement age. Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma will be the new General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command and will take over on Thursday.
After the terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam in South Kashmir, this will take over amid the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan. 26 people were killed in this attack, mostly tourists.
The Army said in a post on ExnuMX, “Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar, Army Commander Northern Command paid obeisance to the Dhruv War Memorial in Udhampur to honor the supreme sacrifice of the brave when he retired and leaving the command of the Northern Command.”
Lieutenant General Kumar, in February last year, took over the responsibility of security and operation on the northern borders of India, including the current Army Chief Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh, and his tenure was 15 months.
