New Delhi. In Haryana, Bharatiya Janata Party has created history and crossed the absolute majority mark in this assembly election. Last time, BJP had formed the government in alliance with Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), but this time despite the break of the alliance, BJP succeeded in saving power. The government’s position became stronger with the support of independent candidates. BJP got a big victory in this election, while the position of JJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala was very weak.

BJP wins on Uchana Kalan seat, Dushyant loses
BJP candidate Devendra Attri won the Uchana Kalan assembly seat in a close contest. He defeated Congress candidate Brijendra Singh by a margin of just 32 votes. However, JJP chief Dushyant Chautala could not even save his deposit on this seat. He got only 7,950 votes, while two independent candidates got more votes than him.

JJP’s declining position and Dushyant’s defeat
In the last assembly elections, JJP had won 10 seats and Dushyant Chautala got the role of kingmaker. But this time after the alliance broke, JJP and Dushyant Chautala himself had to face a crushing defeat. Not only did his party’s account remain closed, but he could not even save his traditional seats.

Challenge of independents for Congress
The biggest challenge for Congress on Uchana Kalan seat was from independent candidates. In particular, Virendra Ghogharian weakened the position of the Congress. He got more than 31,000 votes, while Vikas got more than 13,000 votes. Virendra was earlier a member of the Congress, but was thrown out due to anti-party activities. Congress had to pay a heavy price for his expulsion.
