New Delhi. Jawaharlal Nehru University (GenayU) located in Delhi will now have ‘Vice Chancellor’ but ‘Kulguru’. This was suggested by JNU’s current VC Pantishree Dhulipudi Pandit, which was approved in the meeting of the Working Council. After this decision, now in JNU degree or other documents, the Vice Chancellor will be written in place of the Vice Chancellor. There are two main reasons behind this decision. The first is that it will bring gender equality and the second will be associated with the ancient tradition of Indian education. Earlier, in the universities of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the proposal for the use of Kulguru has been revealed instead of the word Vice Chancellor.

Actually, the word Vice Chancellor is somewhere male dominated, while Kulguru is a word that can be used equally for both men and women. The current Vice Chancellor of JAunyu, Professor Professor, Dhulipudi Pandit, proposed to remove the word Vice Chancellor. Professor Santishree says that this change has been made with the aim of promoting inclusive thinking. This will not make anyone feel gender -based inequality. According to Professor Santishree, education in India is not limited to books only. Through education, thinking, behavior and culture are also coined. In view of this, Kulguru is a word which is closer to the Indian education tradition.
Let us tell you that the Bill was passed in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly in March 2025, in which it was decided to use the word Kulguru instead of the Vice Chancellor in the universities of the state. At the same time, in the cabinet meeting of Madhya Pradesh government last year, it was also decided to use the word Kulguru in place of the Vice Chancellor. Please tell that JNU comes in famous universities in India. It is also identified for its outstanding academics, research and active student community.
