New Delhi: Today is a very important day in the history of the country. Today the country has got a new Chief Justice. Today Justice Sanjeev Khanna has taken oath as the 51st Chief Justice of the country. He has been administered the oath of office and secrecy of the 51st CJI by President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Let us tell you that Justice Sanjeev Khanna has replaced Justice DY Chandrachud. Justice Chandrachud retired on Sunday.

How long will the tenure last?

Justice Khanna’s tenure will last till May 13, 2025. Justice Sanjeev Khanna, who has been serving as a judge of the Supreme Court since January 2019, has heard many big cases. Justice Khanna has been part of many important decisions like maintaining the credibility of EVMs, scrapping the electoral bond scheme, removing Article 370 and granting interim bail to former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Who is Justice Sanjeev Khanna?

Justice Sanjiv Khanna was born on 14 May 1960. He was registered as an advocate with the Delhi Bar Council in the year 1983. In 2004, he was appointed as Standing Counsel for Delhi. In 2005, he became Additional Judge of Delhi High Court and in 2006 became a Permanent Judge.

After this, on January 18, 2019, he was promoted as Supreme Court judge. His retirement is on 13 May 2025.

Let us tell you that Justice Sanjeev Khanna belongs to a prestigious family of Delhi. He is the son of former Delhi High Court judge Justice Dev Raj Khanna and nephew of former Supreme Court judge H R Khanna. He has been emphasizing on reducing the pending cases and expediting the delivery of justice.
