Prayagraj. The Allahabad High Court Bar Association has condemned the way Justice Yashwant Verma takes oath. HCBA has written a letter to the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court. The Bar Association has written that the swearing in of Justice Yashwant Verma is secret, misleading and unacceptable. The Bar Association also expressed disappointment and said that Justice Yashwant Verma was administered the oath behind. Also, during the swearing in of Yashwant Verma, the legal fraternity was unknown. In the letter, the Bar Association has said that this may end their trust in the judicial institution.
The Allahabad High Court Bar Association has also urged the Chief Justice to protect fundamental values and follow the traditions of the institution. The Bar Association has written that in-house investigation has been conducted after getting reliable evidence against Justice Yashwant Verma and it has been reported that the investigation is being done on a war footing. Which can be ensured that evidence is tampered with or not destroyed. The Bar Association has written in the letter that justice should be done not only, but it should also be seen. It is written in the letter that administering the oath to Justice Yashwant Verma is a fashioned incident in our judicial system. The Chief Justice has been written by the Bar Association that lawyers are equal in the institution. Therefore, they cannot be kept away from it. The High Court Bar Association has also passed a resolution. This proposal states that taking oath of Justice Yashwant Verma is against the constitution and hence members of the association do not want to join the unconstitutional oath.
Let me tell you that Justice Yashwant Verma is accused that when he was a judge of the Delhi High Court, on 14 March 2025, a large number of currency notes were recovered while extinguishing the fire in the outhouse of his residence. In this case, Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna has also set up an inquiry against Yashwant Verma. Justice Verma says that this is a conspiracy. At the same time, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association had already opposed the transfer of Justice Yashwant Verma from Delhi. The Bar Association has now opposed the oath to Justice Yashwant Verma in the Allahabad High Court. However, Justice Verma will not be able to do any judicial work till further orders.
