The Bombay Lawyers Association wrote to the CJI in the letter that a lot of cash was reported at Justice Verma’s residence. In this case, it should be approved to file a case against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act and other sections of the Indian Justice Code. It is written in the letter that K. In the Veeraswamy case, the Supreme Court had said in the judgment that judges of the High Court and Supreme Court are also public servants and a case can also be imposed against them in the disproportionate assets case. Explain that the petition seeking approval to register a case against Justice Yashwant Verma had filed in the Supreme Court, but the Supreme Court rejected it.
Justice Yashwant Verma was earlier in the Delhi High Court. On the night of 14 March 2025, there was a fire in the store room of his government residence in Delhi. Delhi Fire Service and Police Employees arrived to extinguish the fire. After extinguishing the fire there, he saw a large number of burnt cash. Police officers gave this information to the Delhi Police Commissioner. The Delhi Police Commissioner sent the video of the burnt cash to the Chief Justice DK Upadhyay of the Delhi High Court. He told the then CJI Sanjeev Khanna. After which the investigation of the case of burning cash of Justice Yashwant Verma was conducted by a committee of 3 judges. At the same time, Justice Yashwant Verma has described it as a conspiracy against himself. He says that after extinguishing the fire, his daughter and staff did not see any cash. Whereas, a few days after the incident, the media also got parts of the burnt cash from near the residence of Justice Yashwant Verma.
