New Delhi. Justice Yashwant Verma is trapped in the case of cash burning. The Bar and Bench quoted high -level sources as saying that the case of burning cash in a fire at the residence of Justice Yashwant Verma has been found correct by the investigation committee of 3 judges. To investigate the incident, Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna formed a committee of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court GS Sandhawalia and Justice Anu Shivraman of Karnataka High Court. The committee submitted its report to Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna on 4 May.
According to sources, if Justice Yashwant Verma does not resign, CJI Sanjeev Khanna will send the report of the inquiry committee to the President and recommend the impeachment. Sources told the bar and bench that after receiving the investigation report of the committee of judges, the CJI spoke to Justice Yashwant Verma. He told him that if he resigns, it would be fine. It is being told that CJI Sanjeev Khanna has given Justice Yashwant Verma till 9 May to take the decision. According to the information, Justice Yashwant Verma also consulted senior lawyers after alleging cash burning in his residence. Apart from senior advocates Siddharth Aggarwal and Arundhati Katju, Tara Narula, Stuti Gujral and another lawyer met Justice Yashwant Verma.
Justice Yashwant Verma was earlier in the Delhi High Court. On the night of Holi on 14 March 2025, the store room of his government residence was on fire. Justice Verma went to Madhya Pradesh at that time. His family and staff had reported the fire to Delhi Police and Fire Brigade. After extinguishing the fire, a large number of burnt cash was found on the spot. Whose video was made by Delhi Police officers and Fire Brigade employees. This video was sent to the Delhi Police Commissioner. He sent the video to Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay. Justice Upadhyay gave information about the matter to CJI Sanjeev Khanna. At the same time, Justice Yashwant Verma had told Justice Upadhyay that his family also did not see the burnt cash after extinguishing the fire. Justice Yashwant Verma feared a conspiracy. After this, the CJI transferred Justice Verma to the Allahabad High Court and formed an inquiry committee of 3 judges. A few days after the incident, the media also found a burnt cash near Justice Yashwant Verma’s residence.
