New Delhi. Justice Yashwant Verma, who came into the discussion after the cash seizure, took oath as a judge of the Allahabad High Court today. Justice Verma was recently transferred from the Delhi High Court to Allahabad High Court. The Allahabad High Court Bar Association had already announced a boycott of the swearing -in ceremony. However, despite taking oath, Justice Verma will not be able to do any kind of judicial work. Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna has prohibited his judicial work till the report of the ongoing internal investigation against Justice Verma.
Justice Yashwant Verma’s house in Delhi caught fire during Holi. After extinguishing the fire, a large number of burnt notes were found from a room when they were inspecting their house. The firemen informed their high officials about this, then the matter opened. After this, the Supreme Court recommended Justice Verma to transfer Allahabad High Court from the Delhi High Court on charges of corruption. Also, CJI Sanjeev Khanna has formed a three -judge committee to investigate the matter. The committee consists of Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Sheel Nagu, Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Justice GS Sandhawalia and Karnataka High Court Judge Anu Shivraman.
On the other hand, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association started an indefinite strike in protest against the transfer of Justice Verma. Bar Association President Anil Tiwari said that due to the transfer of the Allahabad High Court of Justice Verma, the judicial system here will also come under question. Meanwhile, the Central Government accepted the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium and approved the transfer of Justice Verma. However, when CJI Sanjeev Khanna ordered the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court not to hand over any judicial work to Justice Verma, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association postponed its strike on the fifth day.
