New Delhi. The Supreme Court has fixed the date for hearing the petition of Justice Yashwant Verma. According to Bar and Bench, Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice A.G. The bench of Christ will hear the petition filed by Justice Verma on July 28, Monday, in which he has demanded dismissal of the report of the in-house committee against him in the case of getting a burned currency from his house. Earlier on July 23, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court B.K. R. Gawai had separated himself from the hearing of the Justice Verma case and asked to set up a new bench.
CJI Gawai had given the reason behind separating the case from the hearing of the case and said that I was also involved in the collegium choosing Justice Verma, so it would not be appropriate for me to hear the case. In the cash seizure case, Justice Verma says that he was not given a chance to present his side and prove innocent. Along with this, he also challenged the decision of the then CJI Sanjeev Khanna for the formation of three members against him.
Justice Verma has said in the argument that the Constitution does not provide the Supreme Court or Chief Justice the powers of disciplinary action on the High Courts or their judges. Justice Verma also alleged that the then CJI Khanna did not give me enough time to review the final report of the committee before recommending me to be removed from the post. Let us tell you that the Internal Investigation Committee has found Justice Yashwant Verma guilty in the cash seizure case and on the basis of the same report, had recommended the government to bring impeachment motion against former CJI Khanna Justice Verma.
