New Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suffered a major setback before the Delhi Assembly elections. Senior party leader and Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot on Sunday resigned from the ministerial post and primary membership of the party. Taking this step, he wrote a letter to the party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, in which he has made serious allegations against the party’s leadership.
Gehlot’s allegations and reason for resignation
In his resignation, Kailash Gehlot expressed his displeasure over the party’s breaking of promises and corruption. He wrote in the letter that in the last elections, a promise was made to clean Yamuna, but it was not fulfilled. He also alleged that the party has now deviated from the honest politics due to which he was associated with AAP. Describing Kejriwal’s official residence as ‘Sheeshmahal’, Gehlot wrote, “Controversies like Sheeshmahal have raised questions about the party’s intentions in the minds of the public. Now it seems that the Delhi government is spending most of its time fighting the central government, which is having a negative impact on the development of Delhi.”

Gehlot’s resignation and pressure of investigation
According to news agency ANI, Gehlot in his letter took the decision to separate from the party out of compulsion. AAP sources say he was facing investigation by the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation. Due to increasing pressure of investigation he decided to resign.
Kailash Gehlot’s political journey
Kailash Gehlot entered politics in 2015 from Najafgarh assembly seat of Delhi. He won the assembly elections by defeating senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ajit Singh Kharkhari. After this he became the Minister of Transport and Environment in the Aam Aadmi Party government. As Environment Minister, he took many important steps to improve the air quality of Delhi. During his tenure, pollution was reduced by 25 percent. Besides, he also played a big role in strengthening the transport system of Delhi. In the 2020 assembly elections, he again won the Najafgarh seat and maintained his influence. Under his leadership, many new schemes were implemented to improve the public transport system in Delhi.
Shock for Aam Aadmi Party
Gehlot’s resignation is a big blow for the Aam Aadmi Party just before the elections. Not only will the party feel the loss of a senior leader, but his resignation may also affect the party’s image among the public. Now it remains to be seen how the party recovers from this setback and strengthens its position in the upcoming elections.
