Kanpur. Police have arrested two history-sheeters on Sunday night in Kanpur for conspiring to cause a train accident by placing LPG cylinders on the railway tracks. The engine of Kalindi Express train going from Prayagraj to Bhiwani collided with the LPG cylinder placed on the railway track. However, the driver of Kalindi Express train had already applied emergency brakes after seeing something heavy on the track. Despite this, the engine collided with the LPG cylinder at high speed. However, everyone breathed a sigh of relief as a major accident was averted.
The magnitude of the conspiracy to cause a train accident by placing LPG cylinders on the railway track near Kanpur is evident from the fact that the police also recovered a bottle filled with petrol, matchsticks and gunpowder from the spot. The incident of placing all these items including LPG cylinders on the railway track took place between Barhajpur and Bilhaur between Anwarganj and Kasganj stations of Kanpur. Apart from UP Police, the investigation of this case has also been handed over to UP ATS. Earlier also, a heavy object was found kept on the railway track near Pukhrayan in Kanpur and the train collided with it. Even then a major accident was averted.
In recent times, incidents of placing heavy objects and iron etc. on the railway track have come to light at many places. After one such incident, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said that the Railways has handed over the investigation to the Intelligence Bureau i.e. IB. The police had also arrested a YouTuber recently, who used to make videos of trains passing over them by placing bicycles and other things on the railway track to make reels. Train accidents have been happening continuously in the country since last year. In such a situation, the angle of conspiracy is also being discussed. Now it remains to be seen what information the history-sheeter arrested for placing LPG cylinders on the track to cause the Kalindi Express accident in Kanpur gives to the police.
