New Delhi. The Congress government of Karnataka has approved the amendment of the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement (KTPP) Act to provide 4 percent reservation to Muslim contractors in government tenders. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stamped this decision in the cabinet. During the presentation of the state budget on March 7 by the Siddaramaiah government, it was confirmed that it is going to give reservation to Muslim contractors in government contracts. On the other hand, the BJP criticized the Karnataka government’s decision and termed it a violation of the constitutional system.

BJP’s national spokesperson Nalin Kohli said that our constitutional system does not allow reservation on the basis of religion by the Karnataka cabinet to amend the KTPP Act for 4 percent quota for Muslim contractors and the decision of the Karnataka government clearly smells of politics of appeasement. The Karnataka government wants to benefit the Muslim community from the point of view of vote bank. In fact, the Karnataka government is keeping constitutional schemes for its vote bank politics. This is a violation of the constitutional system. This is raising questions on the intention of the Congress government of Karnataka whether they will work beyond the Constitution, they should answer it.
