Karnataka: Eight killed, 10 injured after truck falls into valley

At least eight people died and 10 others were injured when a truck fell into a 50 meter deep valley in Karnataka on Wednesday morning. A police officer gave this information.

Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police (SP) M. Narayana said that all the victims were fruit sellers and were going from Savanur to sell fruits at the Yellapura fair. The accident occurred while passing through a forested area on the Savanur-Hubli road.

Narayan told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “At around 5.30 in the morning, the truck driver had turned the truck to the left in an attempt to give space to another vehicle, but due to excessive turning, the vehicle fell into a valley about 50 meters deep. ”

He said there is no security wall on the valley side of the road. “Eight people died on the spot and two were seriously injured,” the officer said. The injured have been admitted to Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KIMS) hospital in Hubli for treatment.
