New Delhi. ‘Don’t panic, be careful’ advisory has been issued by the Directorate of Medical Education, Karnataka after two cases of HMPV infection were reported in Bengaluru. It has been told that HMPV is not a deadly virus like Covid-19. This disease is common in young children, and elderly people are also more likely to get infected with HMPV. In most cases, symptoms are mild and the infected person does not need to be admitted to hospital. Let us tell you that apart from Bengaluru, a 2-month-old child has also been found infected with HMPV in Chandkheda area of ​​Ahmedabad.

At the same time, Dr. Rajeev Jayadevan, President of Kerala IMA Research Cell, says that HMPV is not a deadly virus and it does not cause deaths like severe pneumonia or Covid. It is common in young children, and in most cases it causes mild symptoms. However, in very rare cases, it can cause bronchiolitis and make asthma worse. He said that at present there is no vaccine or antiviral treatment for HMPV, only the person infected with it needs doctor’s advice and care.

It is noteworthy that till now three children in the country have been infected with HMPV infection, of which the eldest child is 8 months old. The remaining two children are 2-2 months old. One child has also been discharged from the hospital. Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao had called an emergency meeting after two cases of HMPV were reported in Bengaluru today. On the other hand, Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel said that HMPV has been found in a 2-month-old child who had come to Sarwar from Dungarpur in Rajasthan. The child has been referred from Sarwar to Ahmedabad. There is no need to panic, but it is important to be alert.
