The Congress government of Karnataka has decided to file a defamation case against the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly campaigning allegedly about its work performance.
In an official notification released on Sunday, the government has cited allegedly incorrect and false information through a campaign conducted by the BJP in visual media and print media. The opposition BJP has termed the move as the beginning of the second chapter of the Emergency in Karnataka.
The notification said that the government has decided to file a defamation case in the 42nd Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Bangalore in this regard and has been authorized to file a complaint to the Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR).
The government has appointed 67th civil and Public Prosecutor BS Patil from Sessions Court and 61st Civil and Shailaja Nayak from Sessions Court to take legal proceedings.
Also, Kumta Prakash, Deputy Secretary of the Home Department (Law and Order), has been appointed and has been ordered to coordinate with all the concerned departments in this matter and provide complete information to the Public Prosecutor.
Reacting to this, the BJP said that for the first time in Karnataka, a notification has been issued to intimidate the opposition party and the media by making government machinery and officials representative.
BJP state unit president B.Y. Vijayendra said on ‘X’, “There is no question of the BJP being afraid of any kind of threat from the Congress government. If you feel that you can silence the opposition parties in the name of police and law, then this is the culmination of your stupidity. ”
He said, “It is clear that your decision to file a defamation suit on the advice of sycophants and fools is not only against the BJP, but also to take revenge against the media.”
Vijayendra said, “The second chapter of the Emergency has started in Karnataka and the Congress government of Karnataka will soon see that democracy, the people of Karnataka, the people, the opposition party and the media have the power to turn it away.
