Bengaluru. The Karnataka government has given clarification on the media news regarding consideration of reservation for Muslims in government contracts. Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah government has said that according to media reports, there is a proposal to give reservation to Muslims in government contracts, but it is clarified that the state government has not presented any proposal in this regard. Besides, the Congress government of Karnataka has also admitted in its statement that the demand for reservation for Muslims in government contracts is correct.
Earlier, the famous English newspaper Deccan Herald, quoting a government official, had reported that the Siddaramaiah government of Karnataka is considering giving 4 percent reservation to Muslims in government contracts worth up to Rs 1 crore. BJP had cornered the Siddaramaiah government in this matter. Karnataka BJP leader R. Ashok had posted on X and alleged that the Congress government of the state was crossing limits in the politics of appeasement. The BJP leader had written that after supporting land grab for Waqf, Siddaramaiah’s Congress government is planning 4 percent reservation in government contracts. He had written expressing apprehension that in this way Karnataka would soon become an Islamic state and Hindus would be second class citizens here.

Even before this, BJP has attacked the Congress government of Karnataka on the matter of giving reservation to Muslims. Actually, here 17 Muslim castes have also been kept in the OBC category. The National Commission for Backward Classes had alleged in April this year that by creating 2B category in Karnataka, all Muslims have been included in the OBC category. After this, BJP made this issue an issue in the Lok Sabha elections. BJP had alleged that Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah government is snatching away reservation from OBCs and giving it to Muslims in order to appease them and create vote bank.
