New Delhi. Karnataka High Court judge V. Srishanand made some such comments during the hearing of a case that he himself has now got into trouble. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the comments of the High Court judge. A five-judge bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice BR Gavai, Justice Suryakant and Justice Hrishikesh Roy headed by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Justice DY Chandrachud has sought a report from the Karnataka High Court in this regard. CJI DY Chandrachud has directed the Registrar General of the Karnataka High Court to submit a report in this regard to the Supreme Court after instructions from the Chief Justice of the High Court. The CJI said, in this era of social media, we are closely monitored and we should make any kind of comment accordingly. The next hearing in the case will now be held on September 25.

In fact, two different video clips of the comments made by High Court judge Vedavyaschar Srishanand during the hearing of a case on August 28 went viral on social media. In the first video, Judge Vedavyaschar Srishanand called Gori Palya, a Muslim-dominated area of Bengaluru, Pakistan. He said that the area from Gori Palya to Mysore flyover is not India but Pakistan and the law does not apply there.

In another video, he made objectionable comments about the female lawyer associated with the case. Justice Srishanand told the female lawyer that you know a lot about the opposing party, in this way you can even tell the color of his undergarment. Both these videos went viral on social media in no time. The video containing the comments related to the female lawyer was shared by the country’s well-known lawyer Indira Jaisingh herself on her social media account and requested the Supreme Court to take cognizance of this matter.
