The Karnataka Legislative Assembly passed a resolution opposing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which was strongly criticized by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who accused the state government of indulging in “politics of appeasement”.
Leader of Opposition R. Ashok raised strong objections to the proposal, alleging that the state government was supporting Muslims to get votes. “We discussed Waqf issues for two days, as all our temples and farmers’ lands have been acquired by the government.”
Ashok said, “We discussed Waqf issues for two days, because all our temples have been acquired by the Waqf Board. Many government schools, which have been in existence for the last 60-70 years, have also been declared Waqf property. Priority is giving political gains rather than accountability.

The Bill (Amendment) Bill has been a matter of debate, as it aims to amend the provisions related to the administration of Waqf properties.
The Waqf Act 1995 enacted to regulate Waqf properties has been criticized for long -term mismanagement, corruption and other issues.
