The Kartarpur Corridor at Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district of Punjab has been closed for a full day on Wednesday. A senior official said that the decision has been taken by India after a missile strike at nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). According to the information, there will be a ban on visit to Darbar Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan from Kartarpur Corridor on Wednesday.
A large number of devotees reached Dera Baba Nanak on Wednesday morning so that they could pay obeisance at the holy site of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. But for security reasons, devotees were not allowed to go to Darbar Sahib.
The Kartarpur Corridor connects Dera Baba Nanak Gurdwara in Punjab, India to the Darbar Sahib Gurudwara in Pakistan. This is the same place where Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, spent the final year of his life. The corridor was started on 9 November 2019 on the occasion of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
This corridor allows Indian pilgrims of all religions to visit a visa-rich journey throughout the year. According to the agreement between India and Pakistan, 5,000 devotees can visit Kartarpur Sahib daily.
Significantly, the Indian armed forces attacked terrorist bases under ‘Operation Sindoor’. These included Jaish-e-Mohammed’s stronghold in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s headquarters in Muridke. The action was taken on 22 April in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, in which 26 people were killed. Vigilance has been increased in border areas after military action taken under ‘Operation Sindoor’.
