New Delhi. UP ATS has arrested Jamaluddin alias Chhangur Baba on charges of illegal conversion. According to the ATS, Chhangur Baba is the kingpin of the illegal conversion gang. Chhangur Baba is accused that he used to convert poor, working class girls and forced people in his web. The network of this gang is spread in many states of India. The ATS has also received information that gang members have traveled to Islamic countries 40 to 50 times. The gang members opened more than 40 bank accounts with different names, including foreign funding of more than 100 crores. It is also being investigated.

ADG (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash said that Chhangur alias Jamaluddin, a resident of Utraula in Balrampur district of UP, used to call himself Haji Pir Hazrat Jalaluddin. He had been running a conversion racket for a long time. He used to convert the girls through his agents. The rates of conversion of girls of every class were also fixed. 15 to 16 lakh rupees for conversion of Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Sikh girls, 10 to 12 lakh rupees for conversion of girls coming from backward castes and 8 to 10 lakh rupees for other castes.
Those who were not ready for conversion were tortured by threatening to implicate them in false cases. The ATS is engaged in gathering more information related to this gang. Some other people may also be arrested soon. The ATS received a complaint against Nasreen, Jamaluddin, Mehboob etc., a resident of Madhpur in Utraula police station area of Balrampur district, for buying property showrooms, bungalows, luxury vehicles within a year.
