Kolkata Junior Doctors Strike Continues : Junior doctors have also given time till 5 pm, if demands are not met then the strike will continue

New Delhi. The strike of junior doctors in protest against the rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata is still continuing. Just yesterday, the Supreme Court had given the junior doctors time till 5 pm today to end the strike and return to work. Now the junior doctors have also given an ultimatum to the government till 5 pm. The doctors involved in the protest clearly say that if the government does not accept our demands by evening, then our protest will continue. The junior doctors who reached to protest outside the Health Building in Kolkata are demanding CCTV cameras in hospitals and their safety during duty.

Apart from this, they are also adamant on the demand for resignation of the state’s Health Secretary, Health Education Director and Kolkata Police Chief. Junior doctors say that the people involved in this heinous crime against our fellow doctor should be arrested and given strict punishment. Let us tell you that during the hearing of this case in the Supreme Court yesterday, senior lawyer Kapil Sibal, appearing on behalf of the West Bengal government, had said that 23 people have lost their lives due to lack of treatment due to the doctors’ strike. Expressing concern over this, the Supreme Court had requested the doctors to return to work by 5 pm today.

The Supreme Court had assured the doctors that no adverse action would be taken against them. However, the apex court also warned that if the doctors continue to remain absent from work, disciplinary action can be taken against them. After the Supreme Court’s direction, the Junior Doctors Association had said that if our demands are not met by tomorrow, we will understand that the government does not want to end the deadlock. In that case, we will hold the government responsible for the situation arising across the state.
