In this regard, the army officer says that sometimes during the rains, due to the flow of water, these landmines get washed away from their places and hence such accidents happen. Earlier last month, on December 9, there was a landmine explosion in Poonch sector of Jammu in which Havildar V. Subbaiah Varikunta lost his life. Before that, in October 2024, a similar blast had taken place in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir. This blast also took place when the army soldiers were on patrol. Two soldiers were injured in that blast.
On January 4, four soldiers were killed when an army truck fell into a ditch in Bandipora, Jammu and Kashmir. Two other soldiers were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment in the hospital. The accident here took place in SK Payin area of the district, there were only 6 soldiers in that army truck. This accident took place when the truck driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to turn a sharp turn and fell into a ditch.
