A major success was achieved on 12 July 2025 in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh when 23 Naxalites surrendered to security forces. There was a reward of Rs 1 crore 18 lakh on these Naxalites. The group consisted of 14 male and 9 female Naxalites, who were active in Sukma and Bijapur districts. Several major Naxalite leaders were among the surrender, including Munna Kunjam (35) of the Malangir Area Committee and the Military Commander of the Palm Area Committee, Hemli Kunjam (27), both had a reward of Rs 8-8 lakh.
According to the report, these Naxalites were fed up with the hollow ideology and violent activities of the Maoist organization. The Chhattisgarh government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, such as the ‘Need Nalnar’ scheme, inspired them to return to the mainstream. Naxalites who surrendered were given initial assistance of Rs 50,000 and will be supported under the rehabilitation policy.
This incident is considered a major victory against Naxalism. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai said that this is the result of the policies of the state government and the activism of the security forces. Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chauhan said that these Naxalites were involved in many violent incidents, such as IED attacks and police attacks. This year, 132 Naxalites have surrendered in Sukma, which is a step towards the target of Naxal-free Chhattisgarh.
