LG VK Saxena replied on Atishi's letter, 'Where are no temples and mosques being demolished?'

New Delhi. The ongoing controversy regarding religious places in Delhi has heated up the political atmosphere. Now the reaction of LG Secretariat has come to light on the letter written by Chief Minister Atishi to Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena.

What did the LG Secretariat say?

Rejecting the Chief Minister’s allegations, the LG Secretariat said, “Neither any temple, mosque, church or other place of worship has been demolished, nor has any file related to it come to the LG office. The Chief Minister is doing cheap politics to divert attention from her and the former Chief Minister’s failures.”

Along with this, LG has given strict instructions to the police to be extra cautious towards religious places. “There was no untoward incident during the recent Christmas celebrations, which shows that the administration is fully alert,” the secretariat said.

Why did CM Atishi write the letter?

Chief Minister Atishi, while writing a letter to LG Vinay Saxena, had said that with his approval the religious committee has ordered the demolition of many religious buildings in Delhi. He wrote, “The religious structures to be demolished include many temples and Buddhist places of worship, which hold special significance for the Dalit community. Demolishing these buildings will hurt the religious sentiments of these communities.”
