New Delhi. Lucknow’s CBI court on Wednesday sentenced 10 convicts to life imprisonment in the DSP Ziaul Haq murder case that took place 11 years ago in Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 each on all the culprits, out of which 50% amount will be given to Ziaul Haq’s wife Parveen. In 2013, Circle Officer (CO) of Kunda area Ziaul Haq was posted in Balipur area of Kunda. On 2 March 2013, he along with his police party had reached the spot to control the violent situation that arose after the murder of Balipur Pradhan Nanhe Yadav.
It is alleged that when Ziaul Haq and his team reached there, Nanhe Yadav’s family and supporters attacked the police. Sticks and deadly weapons were used in the attack. The mob surrounded CO Ziaul Haq and brutally attacked him, resulting in his death. The rest of the policemen escaped from the spot, but Ziaul Haq became the victim of the attack.
After the incident, CBI started investigating the case under FIR number 19/2013. During the investigation, charge sheet was filed against 12 accused. The accused included Phoolchand Yadav, Pawan Yadav, Manjeet Yadav, Ghanshyam Saroj, Ram Lakhan Gautam, Chhotalal Yadav, Ram Asare, Munna Patel, Shivram Pasi, Jagat Bahadur Pal alias Bulle Pal and Yogendra Yadav alias Bablu. However, during the trial, Yogendra Yadav alias Bablu died, thereby ending the case against him. At the same time, an accused named Sudhir Yadav was acquitted by the court.

The CBI court sentenced all the culprits to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 each on them. The court has directed to pay half the fine amount to Ziaul Haq’s wife Parveen. While giving sentence in this case, the court said that the act of the culprits was not only a challenge to the law, but this incident was also a deep blow to the morale of the police force.
