Landslides occurred on Saturday in Himachal Pradesh due to heavy rains and snowfall. Roads were jammed, causing life to disrupt life in the state, while many other parts of North India received rain. 50 workers trapped in avalanche in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand were rescued, but 4 of them died on Saturday. The rescue team is struggling hard to save the remaining 5 workers.
The highway closed after landslide
The strategically critical 270 km long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed due to heavy snowfall and landslides in Ramban district on Thursday evening, but it was reopened to small vehicles after the weather improved and removing debris from the road.
4 workers died
Delhi, Rajasthan and some parts of Himachal Pradesh received rain on Saturday. 50 workers have been taken out by Saturday a day after the incident of 55 workers under snow due to an avalanche at Border Roads Organization (BRO) camp in Mana village of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, but 4 of them died on Saturday. The rescue team is looking for the remaining five workers.

According to the army, an avalanche occurred near the BRO camp between Mana and Badrinath between 5:30 am and six o’clock on Friday morning, which buried eight containers and 55 workers inside a shed. By Friday night, 33 people were rescued. On Friday, the rescue work was interrupted due to rain and snowfall and the campaign was postponed due to night.

District Disaster Management Officer NK Joshi said that the army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel posted in Mana started rescue operations in the morning when the weather was cured. An army spokesperson said that there are six helicopters in the rescue operation. These include three Army, two Air Force and one civil helicopter hired by the army. Mana, three kilometers from Badrinath, is the last village located at an altitude of 3,200 meters on the Indo-Tibet border.

Officials said on Saturday that a person went missing near the Shiva hydroelectric project in Palampur and a campaign has been started to search for him. Due to heavy snowfall, contact with the Pangi Valley in Chamba has been lost and electricity and telecom services have been affected. Electricity and water supply is still interrupted at some places in Kullu. In Tohlu Nala, the Kiratpur-Manali national highway got jammed due to landslides and tourists got stuck.
Electricity supply has not been restored yet
A total of 112 roads in Kullu are closed and the work of starting 1646 ‘transformers’ is going on. Kullu District Magistrate Tarul Ravvesh said that a total of 125 water supply schemes have been disrupted. He informed that Kullu-Manali route is also closed and vehicles are being sent towards Naggar, while power supply in Manikaran and Manali is not yet restored. Meanwhile, the state received heavy snowfall and rain during the last 24 hours and there were 20 cm, 15 cm, 5 cm, 5 cm, 5 cm and 4 cm of snow in Khadrala, Kothi, Nichar and Jot respectively.
