New Delhi. The decision to ban liquor has been taken in 17 cities of Madhya Pradesh including Ujjain, the city of Mahakal. Most of the cities where liquor shops will be closed are religious cities. This decision was approved after discussion on liquor ban in the cabinet meeting of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. CM Mohan Yadav said that in order to move the state forward towards prohibition, liquor shops will be closed in 17 cities in the first phase. Not only this, the shops that will be closed will not be shifted to another place.

CM informed that liquor shops will be closed in one Municipal Corporation, 6 Municipal Corporations, 6 Municipal Councils and 6 Gram Panchayats. Ujjain Municipal Corporation, Maihar Municipality, Datia Municipality, Panna Municipality, Mandla Municipality, Multai Municipality, Mandsaur Municipality, Orchha Municipal Council, Chitrakoot Municipal Council, Amarkantak Municipal Council, Maheshwar Municipal Council, Omkareshwar Municipal Council, Mandleshwar Municipal Council Liquor shops will be closed in the council. Gram Panchayat includes Salkanpur, Bandakpur, Kundalpur, Barman Kala, Linga and Barman Khurd where liquor shops will remain closed. At the same time, the policy of ban on sale of liquor up to a distance of 5 kilometers from both the banks of Mother Narmada, which is already in force, will continue in future also.

Madhya Pradesh Deputy CM Jagdish Deora, while reacting to the cabinet’s decision on liquor ban, said, it was approved in the cabinet with great religious resolve. After this decision, a total of 47 liquor shops will be closed which will be declared zero. When asked about the revenue, he said that this decision will cause financial loss to the government but this decision is good. Let us tell you that the issue of liquor ban was also raised in Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections.
