New Delhi. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has distanced herself from the criticism of her government minister Firhad Hakim’s statement on Muslim population. Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress (TMC) said the comments do not reflect the party’s position or ideology. Firhad Hakim, a minister in the West Bengal government and Mayor of Kolkata, had said in a program of minority students two days ago that if Allah wills, the Muslim community, which is a minority in the country today, will one day be in the majority. Controversy started after this comment of TMC leader. BJP criticized this statement and linked it to the situation in Bangladesh.

Earlier, BJP leader Sukant Majumdar had said that this statement of the Trinamool leader is not only spreading hatred but there is a conspiracy behind it to create a Bangladesh-like situation in India.
Taking aim at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the BJP leader had said that Mamata’s anti-India mentality has been exposed and her hypocrisy has come to the fore.
