Three Hindu Meitei women and children were missing after this attack. The bodies of 3 of these were found on Friday in the river at Jirimukh on the Assam border. Whereas, the bodies of the remaining three kidnapped people were found in the Barak River on Saturday. Violence had erupted in Manipur since May 2023. The Manipur High Court had asked the state government to consider giving tribal status and reservation to the Meitei community. Only Kukis come under the tribe in the state. Protests began after the Manipur High Court decision and then violence broke out between the Kuki and Meitei communities. Many people have lost their lives so far in this violence. Whereas, Kuki terrorists have also torched many villages of Meitei community. A few months ago, Kuki terrorists had also fired rockets at Meitei village and temple.
