New Delhi: 68 eminent people including former Chief Justice of India Jagdish Singh Khehar, dancer Shobhana Chandrakumar, actor Anant Nag and prestigious King George Medical University Vice Chancellor Sonia Nityanand were honored by President Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday. On the eve of 76th Republic Day on January 25, the names of a total of 139 eminent persons were announced for the Civil Awards of the country- Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The President on Tuesday presented prizes to 68 selected people at the second citizen adornment ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and others.

Earlier on April 28, at the first honor ceremony, President Murmu conferred 71 celebrities with the Padma Awards. At a ceremony held at the Republic of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday, President Murmu honored Justice Khehar with the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian honor of the country for public affairs, while the honor for the late Kathak dancer Kumudini Rajinikanth Lakhia and the late famous folk singer Sharda Sinha received this honor for Lakhia’s grandson and Sinha’s son respectively.
Padma Bhushan honor to 9 prestigious celebrities
The President conferred the Padma Bhushan honor to 9 eminent personalities during the ceremony, including the dancer and actress Shobhana Chandrakumar, businessman Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty, archaeologist Kailash Nath Dixit, dancer Jatin Goswami, actor Anant Nag and Sadhvi Ritambhara. For economist Bibek Debroy and former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi, the honor was received by Debroy’s wife and son of Joshi.
Those who were awarded the Padma Shri Samman included prominent immunologists and Vice Chancellor of KGMU Sonia Nityananda, footballer E Mani Vijayan, singer Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, actor Ashok Laxman Saraf, Mask Producer Reba Kanta Mahant and composer Ricky Gyan Cage. Famous theater artist and acting instructor Barry John, folk musician and famous foreign player Velu Asan, businessman Sajjan Bhajanka, Dr. Neerja Bhatla, scientist Ajay V Bhatt, writer Sant Ram Deswal, spiritual leader Acharya Jonas Mejetti and Farooq Ahmed Mir were among others.
