In this episode, the officials of the Home Ministry in Delhi are going to further the efforts of reconciliation by interacting with the leaders of Maetai and the Cookie community. The concerns of Maetai and Cookie community will also be noted in this meeting.
Violence between Maetai and Cookie community started from May 3, 2023 due to a decision related to High Court reservation in Manipur. The Manipur High Court had directed the Manipur government to give reservation to the Maetai community. Which was opposed by the Cookie tribals. 260 people have died during violence in Manipur. Thousands of displaced have to take shelter in government camps. During the violence in Manipur, there were incidents of misconduct from women. At the same time, Cookie terrorists carried out several attacks on Maetai villages. The Modi government has deployed a large number of army and security forces to prevent incidents of violence in Manipur. The process of seizing all illegal weapons is also going on there.
There was a lot of violence in Manipur decades ago. In which hundreds of people died. Then after the Modi government came to power in power at the center in 2014, it was successful in establishing peace in Manipur. Maetai lives in areas with plains and valley of Manipur. Maetai belongs to the Hindu community. At the same time, cookies live in the mountainous areas of Manipur. Cookie is tribal and believes Christianity.
