New Delhi. Mehul Choksi, an accused in the PNB loan scam, was arrested in Belgium. However, there is a large screw in terms of extradition of India. The reason for this is that Interpol withdrew the red corner notice against Mehul Choksi. Mehul Choksi alleged in 2021 that Indian agencies abducted her from Antigua and took Dominica. He appealed to Interpol to remove the red corner notice. After which the notice issued against him in 2018 was removed by Interpol. In such a situation, CBI and ED may have to fight a long legal battle for extradition of Mehul Choksi in Belgian court.
The lawyers of Mehul Choksi say that she is ill. According to media reports, Mehul Choksi has blood cancer and went to Belgium for treatment. From where he wanted to go to Switzerland. The CBI and ED have cited two warrant issued against Mehul Choksi on behalf of the court of Mumbai. The Mumbai court declared a fugitive and issued a warrant against Mehul Choksi. Mehul Choksi ran away from India with wife Preeti Choksi in the year 2018 to Antigua.
Mehul Choksi is accused of taking a loan of 13500 crores from Punjab National Bank i.e. PNB. Then did not return this debt. The case was investigated by the CBI. The ED then filed a case on charges of money laundering. The ED has seized 41 properties of Mehul Choksi. Their price is close to 1200 crores. Also in many other countries, the assets of Mehul Choksi have been detected by the ED. Mehul Choksi’s Bhanja is a diamond businessman Nirav Modi.
