Mentioning Stopped In Supreme Court: Now lawyers will not be able to mention any case of urgent importance in the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna made this new arrangement, Chief justice Sanjiv Khanna orders no mention oraling for urgent cases in supreme court

New Delhi. Till now, important issues were heard in the Supreme Court only on mention by the lawyer, but Sanjeev Khanna, who became the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, has stopped this process. Now, if an urgent issue needs to be heard immediately, the lawyer will have to request it through e-mail or written letter. It will also have to be explained in the e-mail and letter as to why there is a need for an immediate hearing in the Supreme Court. Justice Sanjeev Khanna has implemented the arrangement in this regard on Tuesday, the second day of his tenure. Before this, it can be seen whether immediate hearing of the concerned case is necessary or not. Earlier, once the matter was mentioned, it had to be heard and then the decision on further hearing was taken after looking at its merits.

Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna has implemented a new system in place of mentoring of lawyers.

Till now, lawyers in the Supreme Court used to mention important issues before the Chief Justice for immediate hearing. The case was either heard by the Chief Justice’s bench or he sent it to some other bench of the Supreme Court for hearing on the same day. Now this will not happen during the tenure of Justice Sanjeev Khanna. Before Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, when Justice Chandrachud was in office, the case was listed on the same day along with mentioning the lawyer. In such a situation, apart from the already listed cases, the judges also got mentioning cases. Especially the lawyers had been listing the cases against the government’s actions or arrests.

When DY Chandrachud was the Chief Justice, lawyers used to raise important issues through mention. Now this process has been stopped.

Now under the new system made by Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, applications for hearing will be given immediately and on the same day through e-mail or letter. After receiving the application, the Chief Justice will decide whether the case will be heard by his own bench or it will be sent to some other bench. Let us tell you that only the Chief Justice’s bench usually hears very important issues. Whereas, there are separate benches of judges in the Supreme Court to hear different issues.
