New Delhi. Along with the Delhi Assembly elections, the date of by-election to be held on Milkipur Assembly seat of Ayodhya, UP has also been announced. Along with Delhi, voting for Milkipur Assembly by-election will also be held on 5th February and the result will be declared on 8th February. Milkipur by-election remains a battle of prestige for BJP and SP. There is a close contest between these two parties and both are gunning for victory, so it remains to be seen whether BJP will be able to avenge its previous defeat or Samajwadi Party will be able to retain its won seat.
Why is by-election being held in Milkipur?
In the 2022 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Milkipur assembly seat of Ayodhya was captured by Samajwadi Party. Awadhesh Prasad had won the election from here. Avadhesh Prasad defeated BJP candidate Gorakhnath Baba in the elections. After this, in the Lok Sabha elections, Akhilesh Yadav made Avadhesh Prasad contest from Ayodhya. Awadhesh Prasad also won the Lok Sabha elections and became an MP. After the resignation of Awadhesh Prasad from the post of MLA, Milkipur seat became vacant and hence by-election is being held here. Akhilesh Yadav has made Ajit Prasad, son of Awadhesh Prasad, the candidate from Milkipur.
