Many incidents of damage due to heavy rains came to light on Monday due to monsoon active in Himachal Pradesh. A five -storey building collapsed in Shimla, while several cattle were washed away due to cloudburst in Rampur. Landslides and the closure of roads in many areas affected normal life.
On Monday morning, a five -storey building collapsed in Bhattakufar, a suburban area of Shimla, while several cattle were swept away from a enclosure due to a cloudburst in Sikaseri village of Rampur.
A building in Mathu Colony located on the path leading to Chamiana Super Specialty Hospital collapsed. However, there were no casualties, as the district administration had already evacuated the building, sensing serious threat. Two other nearby buildings are also threatened.
The building’s mistress Ranjana Verma said, “The ground was slipping after Saturday’s rain, so we had emptied the building on Sunday night. The building collapsed at around 8.15 am on Monday morning.”
He also said that the building was weakened by the construction of a four -lane road nearby, but no step was taken to protect it.
According to Yashpal Verma, Deputy Principal of Chamiana Gram Panchayat, there were cracks in the building last year, but the officials of the company constructing the Kaithalighat four-lane road had assured that the building was safe.
Verma said that the panchayat had asked the company to stop the work as the buildings were getting unsafe. However, he continued the construction work, causing the building to collapse.
“The building collapsed due to the negligence of the construction company,” he said.
Meanwhile, two cowsheds, three cows and two calves, a kitchen and a room were washed away due to cloudburst in Sikaseri village of Sarpara Gram Panchayat in Rampur. The house was of Rajinder Kumar, Vinod Kumar and Gopal, who is the son of Palas Ram. There was no loss of life and property in this incident.
In July last year, 21 people lost their lives due to cloudburst in Sarpara Panchayat Samadas.
Meanwhile, due to frequent rains, traffic was diverted on the same lane due to landslides at five places on the Shimla-Chandigarh National Highway, which led to a jam.
The same situation remained on the highway at the mill bend near Koti in Solan district, there was traffic disrupted due to falling stone on the road and passengers were forced to drive a slow vehicle from a lane.
The Subathu-Wannaghat road was also closed due to landslides in Solan’s Delgi. Officials said that the administration is busy cleaning the road.
In Bilaspur district, landslides have been closed at many places.
The schools remained open despite the meteorological department issued red alert and normal life affected due to heavy rains.
The Meteorological Department warned on Monday morning that there is a threat to moderate to moderate floods in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts in the next 24 hours.
A ‘Orange Alert’ of heavy rains has been released on Wednesday in many areas of Himachal Pradesh and rain has been forecast in the hill state till July 6.
Meanwhile, there was a thunderstorm in Palampur, Baijnath, Sundernagar, Murari Devi, Kangra, Shimla and its surrounding areas.
Many areas of the state received moderate to heavy rainfall. Since Sunday evening, Pandoh has received the highest 123 mm of rain. This was followed by 119.4 mm, 113.2 mm in Murari Devi, 83 mm in Palampur, 65.4 mm in Ghaghus, 65.2 mm in Bharari, 64 mm in Kasauli, 63 mm in Nadaun, 62.8 mm in slapper, 56.6 mm in Dharampur and 56.6 mm in Dharampur.
According to the State Emergency Operations Center, 20 people have died in the state and four people are missing in the state from the arrival of monsoon on 20 June to 29 June.
