Amidst the controversy over the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar, RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha said on Friday that his party has no opposition from SIR, but its methods, time and intentions and ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ is the result of that.
Talking to ANI, Jha said, “We are not opposed to SIR, but with its methods, time and intentions and you are looking at the result of that protest. Today it (voter rights yatra) has become a journey not of any one party, but a journey of the whole of Bihar.”
He emphasized the need for accountability in the electoral process, saying, “I directly say that when the system or process of elections is questioned in any country, the election institution should apologize for its mistake … When the credibility is eliminated by elections, democracy is weakened.”
Earlier today, Congress MP and Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and Vikas Human Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni participated in Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bettiah as the campaign reached its final stages.
Earlier on Thursday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of being a vote thief and questioned his silence on the matter. The 16 -day ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ in Bihar under the leadership of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav aims to raise awareness about the alleged irregularities in the voter list, which has been termed by opposition leaders.
Counting a distance of more than 1,300 km through 20 districts, the yatra will end in Patna on 1 September. Bihar assembly elections are expected to be held later this year, although the Election Commission (ECI) has not announced the official date.
While the BJP, JD (U) and LJP want to continue their rule in Bihar, India wants to remove India block Nitish Kumar from power.
The current Bihar Legislative Assembly, including 243 members, has 131 members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with 80 MLAs of BJP, 45 of JD (U), 4 and 2 independent candidates of HAM (S).
