Mumbai court sentenced 20 years imprisonment to 8 Pakistani citizens, know what is the whole matter

New Delhi. A special court in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, has sentenced 8 Pakistani nationals to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This punishment was given in the case of drugs seizure in 2015. Special NDPS Judge Shashikant Bangar convicted these eight accused and sentenced them to maximum punishment of 20 years and also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on each.

232 kg heroin was seized in 2015

In 2015, the Indian Coast Guard had stopped a boat off the Gujarat coast, in which 232 kg of heroin was being brought. The value of this heroin was estimated to be around Rs 6.96 crore. Eight Pakistani nationals who were on board the boat were arrested. According to the prosecution, 11 drums were found on the seized boat, which contained wheatish brown powder in 20 plastic bags. During investigation this powder turned out to be heroin.

Satellite phone and GPS also recovered

Three satellite phones, GPS navigation charts and other electronic devices were also recovered from the boat during the arrest. All of them were handed over to the Yellow Gate Police in South Mumbai for further investigation.

Special Public Prosecutor demands strict punishment

Special public prosecutor Sumesh Punjwani appealed to the court to give maximum punishment to the accused. He said this sentence would be a lesson for other drug traffickers. At the same time, the defense lawyer appealed for leniency, but the court rejected it.
