Concrete steps are now being taken towards starting a flight service from Safiabad Airport in Munger district pending for years. On the initiative of the state government, an expert team from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) will visit Munger from 22 to 27 May. The team will prepare the viability report of air service, which can clear the way for the local people to get air travel facilities.
Munger is the center of yoga, rail and tourism
Munger is not just a historic district, but also known as the international capital of yoga. The Jamalpur railway factory, Sitakund, Chandika Sthan and Anand Marg founder Anandamurthy Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar’s birthplace give special identity to Munger. Also, industrial units like ITC are also working here.
Preparation of 19 seater aircraft, plan on runway
The state government has started work towards starting flight service of 19 seater small aircraft at Safiabad Airport. The length of the current runway is 800 meters, while large aircraft require at least 1200 meters. But this runway is considered suitable for small aircraft.
The government has already developed a runway and lounge by spending about 8 crore rupees. It was also inaugurated by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, but the service could not be started due to technical reasons and security reasons.
Currently, a pasture airport, focus on security is necessary
Currently, the condition of Safiabad Airport is bad. It has turned into a pasture, where the locals learn to drive, walk and graze the animals. The airport’s boundary wall is broken and security is completely unsuccessful.
Before the visit of AAI’s team, the administration must give priority to the following works:
Boundary wall repair
Deployment of security guards
Delete
Terminal cleaning and repair
What do you say?
The state government aims to start regular flight service from Munger by 2025, so that the tourism, industry and medical sectors here can be promoted. This initiative will not only promote local employment, but will also give a new identity to Munger.
