The situation is under control in Dhulian city of West Bengal in Jangipur subdivision of Murshidabad district after violent protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act on 11 April.
Security personnel including BSF and CRPF have been deployed in the area and officials have said that the situation is now under control. Local people spoke about the chaos spread during the violence, in which many shops and assets were damaged.
Talking to ANI, a shopkeeper described the destruction and said, “My entire building has been destroyed. All the glass is broken. That part of the building was weak -the wooden windows and doors. They broke into that path and broke into it. They sabotaged and looted some of our belongings and looted some of our belongings. Found. I had a cash in cash of about 13.5 lakh rupees, but all were stolen.
Another local shopkeeper Adhir Ravi Das shared his suffering, saying, “My shop has been completely damaged. Nothing is left. If the administration helps, we will be able to open the shop, otherwise we will not be able to do anything. The shop will not be able to do anything. The shop had 6-7 lakh rupees goods, everyone has burnt. We want peace. We want peace. BSF is normal here.
Shopkeeper Habib-ur-Rahman said that the situation has improved. He said, “The situation in Samseerganj is now normal. The administration is asking us to open shops and stay under discipline. The situation has changed after the deployment of BSF and CRPF.”
The security forces are continuing patrolling in sensitive areas to maintain the system, and the administration has urged the residents to remain calm and continue general activities.
