A woman from Madhya Pradesh, who is accused of renting people for killing her husband during her honeymoon in Meghalaya, on Monday claimed that her daughter is “100 percent innocent” and demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.
DGP I. Nongrang said on Monday morning that Indore transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi was killed by his wife Sonam during a honeymoon in Meghalaya during a honeymoon.
Talking to PTI, he said that the woman surrendered to the police in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, while three other attackers were arrested in an overnight raid.
Raghuvanshi and his wife went missing on May 23 while holidaying in the Sohra area of Meghalaya. His body was found in a ravine on 2 June.
However, Sonam’s father denied police claims. Sonam’s father Devi Singh Raghuvanshi told reporters, “My daughter is 100 percent innocent. We demand a CBI inquiry into the case.”
He alleged, “The Meghalaya Police is making a wrong statement about my daughter as the image of the state government is deteriorating due to the murder of King Raghuvanshi.”
He further claimed that the Meghalaya Police has no evidence against his daughter that she had given a contract to kill her husband.
Earlier in the day, Indore Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh told PTI-Bhasha that “Meghalaya Police has detained three people from Indore and its surrounding areas in connection with the murder of transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi.”
He said that the Indore police helped their counterparts in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya in this campaign late Sunday night.
He said that the Meghalaya Police will reveal the details of the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.
Earlier in the morning, Meghalaya DGP Eye Nongrang said, “One person was caught from UP and two other accused were caught by the SIT from Indore.” He said, “Sonam surrendered at Nandganj police station in UP and was later arrested.”
Nongrang said that the arrested people have revealed that King Raghuvanshi’s wife had rented him to kill the king. “The campaign in Madhya Pradesh is still going on to catch some more people involved in the crime,” he said.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Konrad K.K. Sangma congratulated the state police for resolving the matter which shook the entire country.
